I’ve always found that nature has a way of showing us things we sometimes overlook.
Every piece of wood I work with is different — its own colour, grain, and character. On its own, each one is beautiful in its own way. But when you bring two completely different pieces together, something changes.
That contrast doesn’t clash — it creates balance.
That idea is what led to these yin and yang tea light holders. Two separate pieces, handcrafted from contrasting hardwoods, designed to sit together as one. Or just as comfortably apart.
The flowing shape softens the traditional yin yang form, giving it a more natural, organic feel. It’s not about perfect symmetry — it’s about how two different elements can complement each other and create something more complete.
Working with woods like walnut, zebrano, purpleheart, and African rosewood really brings that idea to life. Each has its own personality — some bold, some subtle — but when paired, they seem to find a natural balance.
I think there’s something in that which goes beyond the material itself.
We’re often told that being different sets us apart. But in reality, it’s often those differences that create strength, depth, and balance — whether that’s in nature, in design, or in people.
These pieces are a small reflection of that idea.
Simple in form, but with a meaning that hopefully resonates a little deeper.
